Happy Halloween!

No Halloween parties for me this weekend, I ended up going and playing golf instead - 18 holes at Menifee Lakes country club. :)

Oh where else could you find parts to build an evil robot out of retro Macs?

Like a furry land mine

I stepped on Neko's tail accidentally yesterday, and have two well-spaced puncture wounds on my ankle reminding me why that is a bad idea.

Funny thing is, she looked up at me curiously as if nothing happened immediately afterwards. Must be a reaction thing.

Save the children

I met up with my old high school friend Sunny on Friday, and he mentioned how he was sponsoring this child through World Vision. To make a long story short, I got kind of inspired and ended up doing a similar thing. I signed up to be a sponsor through the Save the Children foundation and ended up sponsoring Satya, an 11 year old boy living in Nepal. FYI, sponsorship monies go to education and health programs in the village of the sponsored child, not to a direct handout.

I figured, it's $28 a month, which is way less than what I spend on useless crap on a regular basis - there are far better places to put that money.

Tired

I'm used to getting my weekly hibernation on Saturday morning by sleeping in from 1am to 1pm. However, I don't think I've had anything more than 7 hours of sleep in nearly a month. I am about to fall face first into my keyboard here at work.

Oh man, I need this weekend.

Things I now know

My friends Tim and Joanna visited me from Toronto last week and we had quite a number of hijinks in Las Vegas and Southern California. I always try to turn my outings into an educational experience, so I will share here a few things I learned when I was in Vegas:
  • Taxicab drivers are the yellow page directory of adult entertainment. They are also very pushy salesmen.
  • $5.95 prime rib in Primm, Nevada is surprisingly good
  • In Vegas, drinks are far overpriced in some places, and far underpriced in others. There is no rhyme nor reason, except that...
  • If you gamble, you'll be taken care of, but...
  • Drinking at the poker table is not a successful winning strategy
  • Never say no to Vegas nightlife. We passed on lining up for Pure at Caesar's Palace, and later found out that Ashlee Simpson was celebrating her 21st birthday with her sister Jessica there.
  • The city may never sleep, but trying to find a real restaurant that's open at midnight on a Sunday is a challenge.
